So it’s staff appreciation week and you’re looking for ideas
Many American companies have adopted the stance of showing their staff how much the company values them by taking a week to reward and refresh them.
Having been part of many a “Staff Appreciation Week” by offering our chair massage services, I’ve picked up a few ideas along the way which have been incredibly successful with the employees.
Having an osteopath come in to the workplace to massage away the workers’ tension is a brilliant way to reward them for their hard work over the year. By setting up in a small office or corner the osteopath has time to ease away the tension in the staff’s shoulders, necks or backs. The effects of chair massage are long-lasting and can be seen for the rest of the week!
Flowers on employee’s desks
Although rather cliché, flowers on each and every staff member’s desk is a fantastic touch. Not only do flowers brighten the office, they oxygenate the room and help your employees to focus. For a personal touch, try to find out each employee’s favourite flowers, although this may depend on your budget.
Findaflorist.com advises the following:
Roses and Daisies: Roses and daises in bright yellow and white will perk up your secretary’s desk. This cheerful arrangement can be put in a coffee mug in a coordinating color for your secretary to use later on.
Roses, Chrysanthemums and Lilies: Roses, chrysanthemums and white Asiatic lilies in light colors are so pretty together. Placed in a decorative vase with a coordinating bow will put a smile on your administrative staff member’s face.
Alstroemeria, Daisies and Roses: This delicately arranged assortment of a variety of flowers in pink, white and lavender in a lovely basket are a great gift to give on this special day.
Roses, Carnations and Asters: These brightly colored flowers in orange and hot pink will light up your office worker’s face with its lovely intensity.
Violets with Butterflies: Beautiful violets nestled in a lovely vase with a purple ribbon and a decorative butterfly will be a wonderful surprise.
For Reading employers looking to take part in this fantastic idea, call Heaven Scent on 0118 950 5511 or go to www.heaven-scent-florist.com. I saw examples of their bouquets recently and was blown away by them.[/fusion_text][/two_third][one_third last=”no” spacing=”yes” background_color=”” background_image=”” background_repeat=”no-repeat” background_position=”left top” border_size=”0px” border_color=”” border_style=”” padding=”” class=”” id=””][imageframe lightbox=”no” style_type=”dropshadow” bordercolor=”” bordersize=”5px” borderradius=”0″ stylecolor=”” align=”none” link=”” linktarget=”_self” animation_type=”0″ animation_direction=”down” animation_speed=”0.1″ class=”” id=””] [/imageframe][/one_third][two_third last=”yes” spacing=”yes” background_color=”” background_image=”” background_repeat=”no-repeat” background_position=”left top” border_size=”0px” border_color=”” border_style=”” padding=”” class=”” id=””][fusion_text]Company breakfast
Think about when you had a dressing-up day at school, the surprise and the excitement of breaking routine.
Offering staff breakfast gives them a chance to bond properly before the beginning of the working day.
Booking a local cafe or restaurant for an hour or so and letting staff greet each other over a continental or Full English surely beats the smoking area or the water cooler.
Combining the two above ideas of breaking up the day and getting fresh air. Rent a few benches, or bring some tables down from the office and make an outdoor buffet. This offers the staff an outdoor picnic an opportunity to be creative by bringing their own food – get the foodies competing with each other!
Giving your staff the opportunity to vote for another team member at in an office competition helps to provide a sense of community within the workplace. Each employee has the choice of whether to enter the competition, be it a cake bake-off or something more company-related with a small prize at the end.
Time in lieu
A couple of hours off for each staff member, where they’re able to choose on which day they’re taken, is taken very well by each and every staff member. Either starting the week with a Monday morning lie-in or starting the weekend early with a few hours off on Friday afternoon, your staff will love you for it.[/fusion_text][/two_third]
